  1. Buy a plastic window box at a home or garden center.
  2. Construct a cedar frame around it. Size the frame so the lip of the plastic window box rests on the wood. There’s no need for a bottom.
  3. Cut the front side of each end piece at a 5-degree angle, then screw together the frame with 2-in. deck screws.
  4. Attach the box to the house with a pair of L-brackets, and you’re ready to get growing.
